Skoda confirm the launch of the Slavia sedan later this year

It is no news that Skoda has been in the works to launch a new sedan in India and Skoda India has now officially confirmed that the new Skoda Slavia will be launched later this year.

Many underpinnings of the Slavia are likely to be shared with the recently launched Skoda Kushaq mid-size SUV. It will also make use of the MQB-A0-IN platform, which was created especially for India. It's a more affordable variant of the MQB-A0 platform, which is used by several Volkswagen subsidiaries in international countries.

Not much can be said about the design of the car as Skoda hasn't released anything else. The Salvia has been spied testing across the country but with a camouflage wrap that makes it close to impossible to tell how the vehicle really looks.

Rumour has it that the upcoming Skoda Slavia will carry over the 1-litre TSI engine and we also expect Skoda to offer the 1.5-litre TSI engine that produces 150PS and 250 Nm of torque. Both, a manual and an automatic are expected to be offered on both engines. The 1.5 TSI could also feature cylinder deactivation technology, which helps aid better fuel economy.

The Skoda Slavia has a lot to offer, especially because it has been thoroughly tested in Europe for over a year.

The Skoda Slavia comes in as a bold move from Skoda India as the sedan segment continues to decline in India, with Toyota pulling the plug on the Yaris not too long ago. The Slavia will be a little bigger than the Skoda Rapid and will compete against cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.
