Sixth-gen Honda CR-V makes global debut
The sixth-gen Honda CR-V has just been unveiled and the car does look a lot more stylish and sporty than the outgoing model. The Honda CR-V has consistently been one of the best-selling cars in the USA after the pick-up trucks
The new Honda CR-V looks marginally bigger and Honda claims to offer more space for passengers as well as cargo. The new CR-V is 2.7-inches longer of which 1.6-inches is added to the wheelbase.
The SUV's slimmer LED headlights in reflector housings and a bigger hexagonal grille gives it a more contemporary and upscale appearance. The luxury quotient is increased by the chrome pieces at the bottom. Premium-looking LED components that appear to be modelled by Volvo's tail-light designs are added to the taillights.
The 4 variants available are EX, EX-L, Sport and Sport Touring. The first two are driven by a 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol engine that uses an automated CVT to provide 190PS and 243 Nm of torque. These models have 18-inch alloy wheels.
A 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain producing 20PS and 335 Nm powers the top 2 trims. The four driving modes for this vehicle are Econ, Normal, Sport and Snow. While the Touring variant receives 19-inch wheels, the Sport variant receives 18-inch alloys.
The interiors of the new CR-V resemble those of the most recent Honda Civic. The finish options include all-black or two-tone. A 9-inch freestanding infotainment touchscreen system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto is in addition to the 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
While Honda SUVs never really took off in the Indian market, over in the US, the CR-V is a favourite. The new Honda CR-V will lock horns against the Toyota RAV4, which from the looks of it, seems to be headed to India soon. The RAV4 has been spotted testing in India and a debut is expected very soon.
