Second-gen Isuzu MU-X debuts in Thailand
Isuzu has launched the second-generation if the D-Max based Isuzu MU-X in Thailand. Like the new D-Max, its seven-seater SUV derivative has been completely overhauled. It sits on new ladder-frame construction, is larger and comes with a more contemporary interior.
The new MU-X follows the trend set by the D-Max of a more crisp, flowing design theme. The SUV is now 25mm longer, 10mm wide and 35mm taller. Striking elements to the design are the swept-back LED lamps with their unique LED light signature and the chrome-lined grille surrounds. Below this is a wide air dam and some prominent housings for the fog lamps. In profile, the new MU-X has been treated to a sleeker glasshouse with a unique treatment to the rear quarter glass and a significant shoulder line. There's now a much cleaner rear tailgate with large Isuzu lettering and sharper angular two-part tail-lamps. Alloy wheel sizes range between 17 and 19 inches.
On the inside, the MU-X is largely similar to the new D-Max, with the same flat dash face and a clean array of buttons on the centre console. The large 9-inch touchscreen and 4.2-inch MID continue as well as the new steering wheel. The MU-X gets an electronic hand-brake and a new placement for the drive-mode selector on the centre stack. Other feature highlights are keyless entry and go, ambient lighting, 8-way adjustable powered-driver seat, air vents for the second and third row, dual-zone climate control, a PM 2.5 air filter and a powered tailgate. Safety features amount to seven airbags, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, ABS, ESP and so on.
There are two engine choices on offer with the second-gen MU-X. The first is a 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 150PS and 350 Nm. A larger 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel is also available with 190PS and 450 Nm. Both engines pair with a six-speed automatic, while the 1.9 can also be had with a six-speed manual. Four-wheel-drive is available with the 3.0-litre engine.
Isuzu recently updated its commercial vehicle range in India to BSVI spec, and a similar move is expected for the D-Max V-Cross in the coming months. There is no word yet on when the new-gen D-Max or MU-X debuts in India. The new MU-X is priced between THB 1.11 million(Rs 26.53 lakh) and THB 1.58 million (Rs 37.78 lakh).
