Ducati took the centre stage by announcing that its upcoming Multistrada V4 will be its first motorcycle to come with radar tech. And now BMW has become the second two-wheeler manufacturer to offer its latest, the R 1250 RT with radar tech. Considering that the Multistrada V4 is yet to be unveiled, the R 1250 RT has become the first motorcycle to have radar tech. Additionally, BMW has tweaked the design, making it more aerodynamic as well as given its flagship tourer technical updates as well.

The 2021 BMW R 1250 RT is powered by a 1,254cc boxer-twin that is EuroV compliant and produced 136PS of power at 7,750 rpm and generates a torque of 143Nm at 6,250rpm. The engine features BMW's ShiftCam technology which helps varying valve timing and valve lift on the intake side thereby offering better power delivery across the entire rpm range along with refinement and better fuel efficiency, all of that by making sure the engine complies with the cleaner and stricter emission norms

In terms of features, BMW Motorrad will be offering adaptive cruise control as an optional extra, which has been developed with Bosch. Interestingly, the unit on the Ducati Multistrada V4 too has been developed by Bosch. While in the standard variant of the 1250 RT, the motorcycle can limit the speed while descending on a downhill with the help of the dynamic cruise control, the radar tech senses a vehicle 120m away and automatically adjusts the speed of the motorcycle to be at a safe distance. The system basically applies brakes and also controls the throttle to maintain the distance. The speed range for the radar tech to work on the 1250 RT is between 29kmph to 160kmph. BMW also mentions that the system works just as efficiently while cornering too as it takes into account the bank angle and accordingly adjusts the speed.

For 2021, BMW has equipped the R 1250 RT with cornering lamps that was already showcased in the latest 1250 GS. This unit, that will be an optional extra, retains its position even when the motorcycle is banking at an angle. Offered as standard on the 1250 RT are LED lights. BMW has also updated the instrumentation with a 10.25-inch TFT colour screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity.
