Production-spec Renault Kiger SUV to be revealed on January 28
Renault India has confirmed that the production version of the Renault Kiger will be unveiled on January 28. The Kiger was revealed in concept form in November 2020 and is known to be based on the same CMF-A+ architecture as the Triber and Nissan Magnite. Like these cars, the Kiger is set to compete in the B-segment and in the lower half of the sub-four-metre SUV market.
The Kiger SUV will be powered by the new TCe 100 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine that will debut in the Magnite with 100PS and 160 Nm. The N/A 1.0-litre producing 72PS of power and 96Nm of torque may continue in the low-spec versions. The car will get both, 5-speed manual and the AMT transmission options. Renault is expected to bring the CVT transmission for the turbo petrol variants.
The Kiger in its production form will share 80 percent of its exterior elements with the show car. The Kiger concept reveals that the SUV will get an oversized Renault lozenge between the split lighting. Although here a three-part LED headlamp can be expected, nestled in quite an aggressive two-part airdam. The bonnet also carries quite a prominent central bulge.
Along the side, the Kiger carries some sculpted body panels, especially over the wheel wells. Another striking design element is the sloping roof with the floating roof C-pillar treatment. We expect to see more toned down roof rails and wheels in production guise, although Renault promises a 210mm ground clearance. Like the Kwid and Triber, the Kiger too is a collaborative effort of Renault's design teams in France and India.
Expect a spacious and heavily equipped interior with many elements derived from elsewhere in the Renault lineup, as well as many of the new features that have debuted in the Magnite. We expect prices of the Kiger to start from below Rs 6 lakh ex-showroom. This means that the Kiger is expected to be priced very attractively against competitors like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet
