Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is the fastest electric series-production car; Breaks another Tesla record

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is a pure electric monster on wheels. For some perspective, the base Taycan model accelerates to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds, while the top-end Turbo S variant does it in around 2.3 seconds. With a maximum of 1,108PS and the Weissach Package, the Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.1 seconds, making it the quickest and most powerful road-legal Porsche of all time.

The new Porsche Taycan, which lapped the Nurburgring in 7:07:55 as a pre-production vehicle, is known as the Taycan Turbo GT. With Porsche development driver Lars Kern at the wheel, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package became the quickest four-door series-production electric vehicle at the Nurburgring.

Following in those footsteps, Porsche took a production-spec vehicle to Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California last month and established a lap record of 1:27.87. This exceeds the milestone established by the Tesla Model S Plaid, which was 1:28.2 set in 2021. The Weissach option, which removes the rear seats to save 71 kg, also contributed to the new lap record.

In regular mode, the vehicle produces 788PS and 1340Nm of torque, with the new Attack Mode function increasing power to 1,033PS. Launch control unleashes the Turbo GT's full 1,108PS for two seconds, accelerating it to 100 kmph in 2.2 seconds (2.1 seconds with the Weissach track package). The Turbo GT accelerates to 200 kmph in 6.6 seconds or 6.4 seconds with the Weissach package. The top speed of the car is 290 kmph, or 306 kmph with the Weissach pack. The range of the Taycan Turbo GT variants is claimed to be up to 555 kilometres.

Porsche installed a new rear motor and a pulse inverter on the rear axle, which was upgraded with silicon carbide semiconductor material. The inverter converts battery energy into three-phase electricity to power the motors; the new version operates at 900 amps rather than 600 amps as on the Turbo S trim. There is also a new heat pump and enhanced thermal management. A new push-to-pass function included in the Sport Chrono Package increases horsepower for 10-second bursts.

Porsche designed a front spoiler with aero blades, especially for the Taycan Turbo GT. The adaptive spoiler dominates the rear look, with a Gurney flap on the tear-off edge finished in high-gloss carbon weave. Meanwhile, the Weissach package includes a fixed rear wing finished in carbon weave, as well as wing supports that are mounted to the body. The total downforce here is up to 220 kg.

Carbon fibre is utilized for the B-pillar trims, the top shells of the door mirror, and the side skirt inlays, among other components. The complete bucket seats constructed of CFRP, a lightweight luggage compartment, and the absence of the tailgate's electronic soft-closing feature all reduce weight.

The Taycan Turbo GT comes standard with the Dynamics package, which includes Active Ride suspension with custom tuning and 21-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels. It also has lightweight ceramic brakes with Victory Gold callipers.

Inside, the sporty Race-Tex features include black leather detailing as standard. The standard equipment also features lightweight complete bucket seats with a carbon-weave surface (high gloss). Front Adaptive Sports Seats Plus (with motorized 18-way adjustment and memory package) may also be selected. The Taycan Turbo GT includes the Sport Chrono package from the Taycan Turbo S.
