New Mahindra Scorpio Classic S5 variant likely to launch soon
Mahindra is reportedly readying a new variant of the Scorpio Classic, called the S5, for India launch. This new mid-spec Scorpio Classic S5 variant is likely to be positioned between the entry-level S and range-topping S11. Currently, the S costs Rs 13 lakh, while the S11 is priced at Rs 16.81 lakh (both ex-showroom). Thus, there is a whopping price difference of Rs 3.81 lakh. The upcoming S5 will bridge the gap between the on-sale variants. Notably, a few spy photos of the upcoming model have also appeared on the internet.
Despite the arrival of the new generation Scorpio-N, the good old Scorpio Classic has retained its loyal fan base. Mahindra recently revealed that it has nearly three lakh pending orders as of 1 May, 2023. Out of that figure, the new Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic account for about 40 per cent of the total open bookings. Notably, the waiting period for the Scorpio Classic is approximately up to seven months, while customers may have to wait up to 17 months to get their hands on the Scorpio-N.
Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Classis S5 variant: What is new?
Since the upcoming Scorpio Classic S5 variant will sit atop the base-spec S, it is likely to benefit from a few noticeable updates. According to media reports, it will come with body-coloured front and rear bumpers, body-coloured cladding, roof rails, door trim with 'Scorpio' lettering, and side steps. On top of that, the mid-spec variant will also get 17-inch alloy wheels.
Is to be noted that most aforementioned additions can be opted as accessories even with the entry-level variant. Therefore, it could be merely a cosmetic upgrade on the outside over the Scorpio Classic S. Even so, expect the Scorpio Classic S5 to command a higher premium.
Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Classic S5 variant: Interior
The new S5 variant is likely to carry the same layout as the base-spec variant. As a result, it could skip a touchscreen infotainment system, a multifunctional steering wheel, cruise control, front armrest, electronically controlled ORVMs, and automatic climate control, among others.
Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Classic S5 variant: Engine and gearbox
Powering the Scorpio Classic S5 will be the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine generating 132PS and 300Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra does not offer an automatic transmission with the SUV.
