New BMW R 1300 GS coming soon: Expected price, trims & specs
BMW Motorrad India has officially teased the all-new R 1300 GS ahead of its imminent launch in India. The brand has also opened its order books. For India, the flagship adventure motorcycle from the German automaker will be available in three trims: Triple Black, GS Trophy, and Option 719 Tramuntana. It is expected that BMW's R 1300 GS will command a greater premium than its predecessor, with prices starting between Rs 22-25 lakh.
BMW R 1300 GS: Highlights
The new design language of the all-new R 1300 GS marks a significant departure from the previous R 1250 GS. The new model is compact and sleek, with a touch of sportiness. Its fascia now features an X-shaped light setup comprising a matrix LED headlamp and daytime running lights. Additionally, it uses a new main frame made from a new sheet metal material and a new die-cast aluminium sub-frame.
Like the R 1250 GS, its successor continues to use telelever front forks and a paralever rear mono-shock. Notably, it introduces an electronic dynamic suspension adjustment that automatically adjusts the spring rate depending on the ride mode and riding conditions. Also on offer are active height adjustment and sports suspension, which provide 20mm more spring travel at both ends.
BMW R 1300 GS: Features
BMW has equipped the R 1300 GS with an array of features, including four ride modes (Road, Rain, Eco, and Enduro), ABS Pro, traction control, hand protectors with indicators, dynamic cruise control with brake function, a phone charging compartment, a USB charging socket, seat heating for rider and pillion, a 6.5-inch colour TFT instrument console, RDC, MSR, heated grips, keyless ignition, and an intelligent emergency call function. The Riding Assistant package offers Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Change Warning (SWW).
BMW R 1300 GS: Engine Specifications
At the heart of the R 1300 GS is a 1,300cc, boxer-twin, liquid-cooled engine that delivers 145PS at 7,750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. It features an increased displacement of 46cc over its predecessor, thanks to its four-valve DOHC configuration and larger valves. BMW has also enhanced its ShiftCam variable valve timing system for improved efficiency. Additionally, the carmaker has saved 4kg by repositioning the gearbox underneath the engine, shortening the overall length of the powertrain. The reworked shaft drive has further saved 2.6kg. Overall, the R 1300 GS is 12kg lighter than the R 1250 GS, now weighing 237kg.
In India, the new BMW R 1300 GS will compete with the Ducati Multistrada V4, Honda Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger 1200, and Harley-Davidson Pan-America.
