Mini Rocketman Concept to be shown at 2012 London Olympics
The Mini Rocketman Concept created quite a stir when it was displayed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Its three metre length and 3+1 seating configuration wasn't lost on the visiting public. BMW had quashed ideas of this latest Mini making it to the production lines, however, the resurface of the Concept in fresh livery allures the possibility that the company might be thinking of manufacturing it. The new Concept car pays tribute to the country hosting the 2012 London Olympics with its white, red and blue glass roof, which when illuminated, represents the Union Jack replacing the sombre grey of the original concept.
Exposed carbon components around the doors and front end intersperse with the non-metallic paintwork of the body, bearing the years of previous Olympics. The mirror caps, boot opener, headlights and radiator grille have Matt Porcelain White paintwork. The Mini Rocketman Concept's spaceframe is made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, enabling a lightweight construction. We just hope that Mini sees sense in putting the Rocketman Concept to production soon.
