MG ZS EV facelift adds long-range 72kWh model to line-up
The facelifted MG ZS EV for international markets brings styling on the all-electric crossover in line with the freshly launched-in-India MG Astor but an important update is the addition of a 72kWh, 437km (WLTP) long-range model to the line-up, apart from the previously available 44.5kWh, 261km (WLTP) model. Another variant, with a 51kWh, 317km-capable battery will join the line-up next year, likely replacing the current base variant.
The newly added 72kWh long-range MG ZS EV (capable of up to 76kWh charging) can be charged from flat to full in 10 hours 30 minutes using the onboard 7kW charger, or in 42 minutes via a 100kW DC fast charger. While we expect the new MG ZS EV to launch in India soon, it remains to be seen if the 51kWh model is brought in, or if the 72kWh is offered as a long-range option.
The styling changes, as on the MG Astor versus the pre-facelift MG ZS EV also available in India, include LED headlights, new LED DRLS, and a redesigned set of tail lights, apart from redesigned bumpers and wheels. Apart from the stamped grille unique to the electric model, the design is similar to the MG Astor. The graphics and user experience on the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, running MG's iSmart connectivity system, is said to be improved. The all-digital instrumentation has been redesigned as well, and top variants will benefit from the addition of wireless phone charging.
For reference, the pre-facelift MG ZS EV, as available in India, is powered by a single electric motor producing 143PS and 353Nm torque. For 2021, the MG ZS EV in India received a few updates of its own, taking range to 419km (as per iCAT) up from the 2020 model's 340km (certified as per ARAI). Other changes included increased ground clearance, up 16mm to 177mm, and redesigned alloy wheels. Pricing for the 2021 MG ZS EV in India stands between Rs 20.99-24.18 lakh, ex-showroom.
