MG Motor has unveiled a new plug-in hybrid SUV called the S9 for the UK market. The model marks the brand's first seven-seater SUV to be offered there, with prices starting at £34,205 (around Rs 42.25 lakh). Sales of the SUV are expected to begin later this year.

- Rivals such as the Volkswagen T?Roc eHybrid and the Skoda Kodiaq iV
- Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 24.7 kWh battery
The MG S9 aims to offer a more affordable electrified SUV option compared with rivals such as the Volkswagen T?Roc eHybrid and the Skoda Kodiaq iV. While the company has not yet shared complete technical details, it has confirmed that the plug-in hybrid SUV will use a 24.7kWh battery pack capable of delivering up to 100 km of electric-only driving range.
Power for the S9 will come from the same plug-in hybrid setup used in the MG HS. This system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the 24.7 kWh battery. MG has not revealed the exact performance figures for the S9 yet.

The feature list is to include dual 12.3 HD screens, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, 5 USB ports, leather-style upholstery, ventilated and massage seats, heated front seats, a large panoramic sunroof, and tri-zone climate control.
On the safety front, the S9 plug-in hybrid has already secured a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. The SUV uses a structure with a high proportion of high-strength steel and offers up to 16 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
MG has not confirmed plans to bring the S9 to India yet. However, reports indicate that the company is considering a three-row plug-in hybrid SUV for the Indian market in the future. If introduced, the S9 could help expand MG's electrified lineup and sit alongside models like the MG Hector Plus and the MG Gloster in the brand's SUV range.
