Mercedes-Benz to tee off 16th MercedesTrophy golf tournament in India

The 2016 MercedesTrophy golf tournament will be teed off from January 6 to 8, 2016 at the Willingdon Sports Club in Mumbai. This is the 16th edition of the tournament in India and features 25 days of qualifiers with close to 2,500 golfers, making it one of India's largest golf tournaments. These qualifying rounds will be held across 13 cities in India, and the 40 winners will compete at the national finals at the Oxford Golf Resort in Pune from March 30 to April 1, 2016. It will be played in a Double Peoria format in two handicap categories.

The three winners from the national finals will then head to MercedesTrophy World Finals at Stuttgart, Germany in September 2016, to fight the best golfers from all around the world. Globally, the MercedesTrophy sees close to 60,000 participants from across 50 countries fighting for the top position.

Mumbai: Mercedes-Benz India will tee off the 2016 MercedesTrophy in Mumbai from the 6th- 8th of January at the Willingdon Sports Club. The annual tournament in its 16th edition in India will feature 25 days of qualifiers engaging about 2500 golfers, making it the largest participative golf tournament in India. Globally, MercedesTrophy witnesses participation of approximately 60,000 golfers from across 50 countries battling it out for the top prize, making it one of the world's largest sporting events. The 40 winners from the qualifying rounds being held in 13 cities – Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jamshedpur, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Kolkata and Delhi, will then compete at the National Finals at the Oxford Golf Resort, Pune from 30th March - 1st April, 2016. Three Winners from the National Finals will further progress to the MercedesTrophy World Finals – Stuttgart, Germany in September 2016, to compete against the winners from all over the world. The format of play will be Double Peoria in two handicap categories with all the Mumbai amateurs vying for six coveted National Finals spots up for grabs. The unique format of adjusting handicaps of players each day enables more golfers to have a chance of qualifying for the National Finals. 10 finalists will emerge from the 5 rounds of qualifiers in Delhi NCR-the most from amongst all 13 cities. One winner will travel to the British Open Championship and will get a chance to play the Royal Troon Championship course the day following the tournament. Another 4 winners will tee off for a golf trip to Abu Dhabi. The 'Best Maintained Car' winners will compete for a wild card entry to the India national final.
