Mazda to produce a Toyota car at its Mexico plant

Toyota and Mazda have announced that a sub-compact Toyota-brand vehicle based on the Mazda2 will be in production at the latter's Mexican plant. Production is expected to start in 2015 with 50,000 units made each year to be sold in Toyota showrooms. Mazda's Mexican plant will go live in March 2014 and Toyota will pour in investments for development and production equipment costs associated with its small car. Through this agreement, Toyota aims to strengthen its North American vehicle lineup, while Mazda is looking to increase production efficiency and contribute to its profitability.
