Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG launched in India; prices start at Rs 8.19 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Swift S-CNG in India with prices starting at Rs 8.19 lakh (ex-showroom). Based on the new-gen hatchback, this model comes in three variants, namely VXi, VXi (O), and ZXi. Customers can also subscribe the Swift CNG for a monthly fee of Rs 21,628. Meanwhile, since the launch in May this year, Maruti has managed to sell 67,000 units of the new-gen Swift.

The new Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated Z12E petrol engine that makes 81.58PS and 111.7Nm of torque. This motor is coupled to a five-speed manual and an AMT. However, the Swift CNG gets only the five-speed manual gearbox. In the CNG mode, this motor produces 69.75PS and 101.8Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki claims that the petrol engine is now 14 per cent more economical over its previous petrol version.

The new Swift petrol gives out a mileage of 24.80kmpl with a manual gearbox version and promises 25.75kmpl with the AMT transmission. On the other hand, the Swift CNG promises a mileage of 32.85km/kg, which is six per cent higher than the old Swift CNG. Plus, the torque of the CNG version has gone up by three per cent compared to the previous-gen Swift CNG. Whereas, it emits six per cent fewer emissions than its predecessor.

Since the Swift CNG comes in new higher-spec variants, it comes with LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an analogue instrument cluster, wireless charging pad, Suzuki connect with over 40 features, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Arkamys sound system, USB Type-C and Type-A ports, cruise control, hill hold assist, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), and six airbags.

Maruti Suzuki is set to start customer deliveries of the Swift CNG in Gujarat, aligning with the festive season in the state and the proximity of its manufacturing plant. The new Swift CNG is the 14th CNG model in Maruti Suzuki's line-up. Compared to the previous version, the new model comes with additional features, including six airbags, a large infotainment system, LED headlights, and more.

Maruti Suzuki reported that one out of every four cars it sold last year was a CNG model. In 2023, the company sold 4.77 lakh CNG vehicles, while the sales figure for April to August 2024 stands at 2.21 lakh units. This year, the brand aims to sell six lakh CNG cars. Its best-selling CNG models include the Ertiga, Dzire, WagonR, and Eeco. Notably, the Swift CNG contributed to 15% of overall Swift sales last year.

The brand's CNG sales are dominated by five states: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi, which account for 70% of total CNG sales and house 58% of the country's CNG stations. Meanwhile, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh contribute 21% to CNG sales, with 23% of the nation's CNG stations located in these states. Punjab, Bihar, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are also emerging as significant CNG markets, according to Maruti Suzuki.
