Automobile sales haven't picked up as expected after the excise duty cuts announced by the government. The cuts were enforced in a bid to boost the sale of automobiles which have witnessed a slump for many months now. Maruti Suzuki though has been one of the makers who have managed to get good sales despite the market slowdown but it has now come out with enticing discounts to lure more customers and better its sales figures.

Dealers are giving discounts of up to Rs 10,000 to clear the pending stock of the humble 800 which went out of production recently. Its successor the Alto 800 is being offered with discounts to the tune of Rs 30,000. The K10 variant of the Alto is available with benefits of Rs 20,000. The Wagon-R and its Stingray variant are both offering discounts of Rs 30,000 to prospective customers. Celerio's predecessor, the Zen Estilo which has been now discontinued gets Rs 30,000 discount for the petrol and Rs 15,000 for the CNG version to clear existing stocks. The small A-Star which is also now discontinued, gets one of the biggest discounts of Rs 50,000 on all its variants. The Ritz hatch sees its price go down by Rs 10,000 on both petrol and diesel models. The best-selling Swift sees a minor reduction of Rs 5,000 for the petrol and a surprise lowering of Rs 15,000 on the better selling diesel variant. The Swift hatchback based Dzire sedan is now available for Rs 15,000 less on the diesel and no discounts on its petrol sibling, the Tour D edition for the taxi market sees Rs 5,000 shaved off its price tag. The SX4 mid-size sedan gets massive discounts of Rs 50,000 on all fuel types.
