From all the spy shots we've witnessed, we thought it was a Baleno crossover but in reality, its a more compact version of the Grand Vitara and it will be called the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The Fronx has made its first official debut at the Auto Expo 2023 and will compete in the compact SUV segment.

Bookings for the new car is officially underway.

The front end has a Grand Vitara-inspired big front grille and split LED headlamp arrangement. Its massive wheel arches and sloping roofline give it a crossover-like appearance when viewed from the side. Maruti has opted for the linked taillight which is situated in the upright backside, like the Grand Vitara, at the rear of the SUV. The overall posture resembles a crossover more so than a traditional SUV.

In its most recent iteration the 1-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine is mated to a mild hybrid system for the first time, which together churns out 100PS and 149Nm of torque. A six-speed CVT or a five-speed manual transmission is used to send power to the front wheels.

The Baleno's current 1.2-litre Dual Jet normally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, which produces 90PS and 113Nm, is another available powerplant. The front wheels of this vehicle receive power from the engine through a five-speed manual transmission and an AMT option.

Based on the Baleno hatchback, the Fronx has a comparable cabin layout and considering that the hatchback's cabin is sufficiently upscale, we have no issues in that regard. The central element is a free-standing nine-inch touchscreen screen. The other amenities are identical to those of the hatchback, including a top-quality audio system, automated temperature control, a sunroof, and a 360-degree camera.

Although the upholstery's design is identical to that of the Grand Vitara, the regular fabric is used instead of leather. Maruti spared no expense when it came to safety, equipping the car with six airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, hill-descent control, and rear parking sensors.
