Maruti Suzuki flags off first leg of National Super League TSD Rally Championship 2016

Maruti Suzuki flagged off the first leg of the National Super League TSD Rally Championship (NSRC) 2016 on March 14, 2016 in Dehradun. The rally sees 35 teams cover a distance of 900km from Dehradun to Auli, in Uttarakhand.

The NSRC is a combination of six different rallies namely the Uttarakhand Rally, Backwaters Rally, 5th Mughal Rally, Deccan Rally, Gujarat Rally and Arunachal Rally. To qualify for the championship event, one has to participate in all the six rallies.

In the first phase, the participants will drive from Dehradun to the outskirts of the Jim Corbett National Park and take a night halt at Garjiya. The next day, drivers will drive along the outskirts of the Jim Corbett National Park, tracing the path of the Ram Ganga river and crossing Bhikyasain, Adbadri and Karan Prayag before reaching the ski resort of Auli. On the third and final day, the teams will head back from Auli to Dehradun.

Dehradun, March 14, 2016: Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India's leading passenger vehicle maker, todayflagged off the first leg – Uttarakhand Rally – of National Super League TSD Rally Championship (NSRC) 2016, from Dehradun. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Harish Rawatofficially flagged off the rally. NSRC is another initiative by MSIL to promote motorsports in India. It is a combination of six different rallies namelyUttarakhand Rally, Backwaters Rally, 5th Mughal Rally, Deccan Rally, GujaratRally and Arunachal Rally. One has to participate in all the 6 rallies to qualify for the championship. After the ceremonial flag off today, the rally will take off in the early hours of March 15.From Dehradun, it will go to the outskirts of the Jim Corbett National Park and take a night halt at Garjiya. The next day, the rally will go up to the ski resort of Auli. On the third and final day, it will head back from Auli to Dehradun, covering a total distance of approximately 900kms in three days. This year the rally will see a total of 35 teams participating for the title. Defending champion of Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally, Ajgar Ali of Haldia (West Bengal) with navigator M. Mustafa of Erode (Tamil Nadu) is also be participating. They are pitted against TSD rally titans of India like Jagmeet Gill of Chandigarh, PramodVig and Aditya Anthony of Bangalore, Nirav Mehta of Kolkata and Vishnu Singh of Jaipur. MSIL is organizing the rally in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and Himalayan Motorsport, the premier Shimla-based motorsport club. Mr Vijay Parmar, President of Himalayan Motorsport said, "There is a greater surge of interest in the Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally after it has become part of the super league championship." Himalayan Motorsport also organizes the Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya, one of the top ten toughest rallies in the world and has been chosen as the custodian of The National Super League TSD Rally Championship for three years, starting from 2016. The Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally will follow the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format. This is a highly safe format of rallying, which tests the skills of both the driver and navigator to the maximum, and retains the adventure of competitive motorsport. This is the sober form of motorsport that allows competitors to go slow in thickly populated areas, and stick to specified speed limits at all times. With this friendly format of motorsport, Maruti Suzuki along with Uttarakhand aims to give a push to its adventure tourism portfolio. About the Rally - The 2016 Maruti Suzuki Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally will run three competitive legs over the prime Garhwal axis of the state. The participants will cover a total distance of 900 kms over three days. After the ceremonial flag-off on March 14, the rally will take off in the early hours of March 15 from Dehradun. It will have the night halt at Garjiya, which borders the Jim Corbett National Park. On the second day, the route will go along the outskirts of the Jim Corbett National Park. It will trace the path of the Ram Ganga River, almost to the source. It will traverse the pilgrim routes and will go via Bhikyasain, Adbadri and Karan Prayag and will reach the ski resort of Auli. On the third and final day, the rally will head back from Auli to Dehradun, using the easier tarmac roads. The rally route will include forest tracks, gravel roads, dry river beds and the snow-covered roads of Auli.
