Maruti Suzuki crosses three crore units production milestone

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a significant production milestone of over three crore units. This achievement encompasses production undertaken at its various manufacturing plants in Manesar, Haryana and Hansalpur, Gujarat. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has become the first subsidiary of Suzuki Corporation to achieve this production mark in 40 years and four months, since the start of production in December 1983. Its Harayana-based plants have produced over 2.68 crore vehicles, while over 32 lakh vehicles were manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a wholly owned subsidiary of MSIL.

The iconic Maruti 800 which was the first-ever offering from the Japanese carmaker in India has played a significant role in this milestone with over 29 lakh units sold, followed by other major contributors, namely the Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, Eeco, Brezza and Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki currently sells 18 models through Arena, Nexa, and Commercial dealerships. Additionally, it exports the made-in-India models to nearly 100 countries across the globe. Commenced in 1987, its exports are said to account for about 40 per cent of the total vehicle exports from the country.

Going forward, the automaker plans to invest further and scale up its annual production capacity to four million units by financial year 2030-31. It will also build two new green field production facilities of 10 lakh units capacity in Kharkhoda-Haryana and Gujarat. Not to mention, Maruti Suzuki will introduce new models in its line-up to offer 28 vehicles by the end of this decade.

Commenting on the occasion, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, "We thank our customers who have shown immense faith in our products year after year, since we began manufacturing in 1983. Over these years, we have been able to maximise production with steady support of our agile workforce and value chain partners who have helped us manufacture products in line with customer needs. We remain committed towards 'Make in India' and have been strengthening our operations in the country, catering to domestic as well as global markets. We contribute nearly 40 per cent to the total vehicle exports from India."
