March car sales: Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and more

Hyundai, Kia, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra, and other automakers in India have commenced disclosing their monthly and annual sales figures. Here is a detailed look at passenger vehicle sales reports from some of India's top-selling brands.

Tata Motors
Tata Motors registered sales of 44,044 passenger vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs), in March 2023 compared to 42,293 units in the same period last year, reporting a four per cent growth. Its passenger vehicle sales stood at 42,865 in the previous month. Tata Motors exports were up by five per cent, registering 181 units in March 2023, against 173 units in March 2022. Meanwhile, total EV sales, including domestic and exports, grew 89 per cent in the previous month to 6,509 units from 3,452 units in March 2022.

Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki's total passenger vehicle sales declined marginally to 1,32,763 vehicles in March 2023 from 1,33,861 units in March 2022. Moreover, exports stood at 30,119 units in the previous month against 26,496 units in March 2022.

The carmaker sold 11,582 units of the Alto and S-Presso, the Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, Dzire, Swift, Tour S and WagonR contributed 71,832 units to the overall sales. The Ciaz sales plummeted to 300 units in March 2023 from 1,834 units in the same month last year. The sales of its utility vehicles, including the S-Cross, Ertiga, Brezza, XL6, and Grand Vitara, grew to 37,054 units from 25,001 units.

Toyota
Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 18,670 passenger vehicles in the previous month, witnessing a nine per cent growth, compared to 17,131 units sold in March 2022. Further, it reported a 41 per cent increase in sales to 46,843 units in the last quarter of the current fiscal year, against 33,204 units sold in the same period of 2022. Meanwhile, Toyota recorded the highest-ever sales in the past 10 years as it sold 1,74,015 units in FY2022-23.

Kia
Kia India reported sales of 21,501 passenger vehicles in India, compared to 22,622 units in March 2022. Whereas, its exports stood at 6,200 units in March 2023. In terms of domestic sales, the Sonet was the highest-selling model in the previous month, as the South Korean carmaker sold 8,677 units of the SUV. The Seltos and Carens registered sales of 6,554 units and 6,102 units, respectively. Total passenger vehicle sales grew 44 per cent in FY 2022-23 and exported 85,754 units in the same period.

MG
The domestic passenger vehicle sales of MG Motor India stood at 6,051 units in March 2023, witnessing a growth of 28 per cent, against 4,721 units in the same month last year. It is to be noted that the brand registered sales of 4,193 units and 4,114 units in February and January, 2023, respectively.

Mahindra
Mahindra reported a 35 per cent growth in sales to 35,976 units in March 2023 from 27,380 units sold in March 2022. On the other hand, it recorded the highest-ever annual sales of passenger vehicles at 3,56,961 units, compared to 2,23,682 units, reporting a 60 per cent jump in sales.

Hyundai
Hyundai Motor India registered 11.2 per cent growth in domestic passenger car sales at 50,600 units in March 2023, compared to sales of 44,600 units in the same month last year. It also reported the highest-ever sales of 5,67,546 units in the financial year 2022-23, witnessing an increase of 17.9 per cent, against 4,81,500 units sold in the same period of the previous year.

The exports rose two per cent to 10,900 in March 2023 from 10,687 units dispatched in the same period of 2022. On the other hand, it shipped 1,53,019 units in FY2022-23, compared to 1,29,260 units in FY 2021-22, reporting a growth of 18.4 per cent.
