Lotus, the English sportscar manufacturer, launched its first vehicle in India today, the all-electric Eletre SUV. Priced from Rs 2.55 crore, the Eletre will be available across 3 variants and will spearhead the brand's expansion in India. Exclusive Motors in New Delhi, which already sells Bentleys in India, will be the country's retailer and distributor of Lotus vehicles.

Lotus Eletre: Variants and Prices

Lotus Eletre: Rs 2.55 crore

Lotus Eletre S: Rs 2.75 crore

Lotus Eletre R: Rs 2.99 crore

Lotus Eletre: Design

The Lotus Eletre is based on the Lotus Emira sports car in many aspects, except for the SUV design feature. The Lotus Eletre is constructed on Lotus' all-new Electric Premium Architecture, which is extremely adaptable (EPA).

The Lotus Eletre's design and aesthetics are stunning, and it has a sporty appearance. It has a low-slung posture, sleek L-shaped LED headlamps, and a substantial front air dam, giving it an aggressive appearance.

This electric SUV has a sloping roofline to make sure you are reminded that it is a more performance-oriented SUV. When you add the expertly made 5-spoke alloy wheels to the mix, you get a truly bold silhouette. The sloping roofline transitions to a raked rear with slim linked LED tail lights and a sharply designed bumper. Don't miss that carbon-fibre, three-stage deployable, split, roof-mounted spoiler that is neatly integrated into the backend.

Lotus Eletre: Powertrain

Lotus will sell three versions of the all-electric SUV. There's the regular Eletre and Eletre S with 612PS and 710Nm of torque. O to 100kmph is achieved in 4.5 seconds. Then there's the Eletre R with 918PS and 985Nm of torque. The top speed in the R variant is 265kmph and 0-100kmph takes just 2.9 seconds.

All three are powered by the same 109kWh battery, which is installed beneath the floor and operates on an 800V system and can be charged by a 350kW unit. The Eletre and Eletre S have a claimed range of 600km while the top-end Eletre R has a range of about 490km.

Lotus Eletre: Interior

The dashboard arrangement in the interior has a clear focus on simplicity while still seeming incredibly appealing to the senses. The driver display, which is roughly 30 mm tall and expands horizontally to meet the 15.1-inch primary HD infotainment screen, is pretty unusual.

In addition, an augmented reality HUD will be included as standard. Customers also get to choose between two audio systems from British brand KEF. the standard system comes with a 15-speaker setup while the upgradable system is a 2,160-watt 23-speaker system with Uni-Q and 3D surround sound technology.

Lotus Eletre: India

At the moment, the Lotus Eletre doesn't have any direct rivals in its segment as other electric luxury SUVs undercut its pricetag by a huge margin. On the other hand, it will have to take on Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powered performance SUVs like the Audi RS Q8, Lamborghini Urus, and BMW XM. We do hope Lotus does bring its only ICE-powered vehicle, the Emira, to India shortly though.
