Lexus RZ 450e unveiled as the first all-electric car from the Japanese brand

Lexus has unveiled the Lexus RZ, its first all-electric car, as part of its transition to an all-electric future. The electric SUV, which will be built on Toyota's e-TNGA platform, will have a range of roughly 450 km on a single charge, similar to the 2023 Toyota BZ4X.

The Lexus RZ appears to be quite similar to the idea from last year, as well as photographs released early this year. The signature Spindle Grille of today's Lexus cars has been replaced with a closed-off body-coloured panel flanked by angular headlights - the real grille aperture is at the base of the bumper.

A split spoiler-like device protrudes from the top of the windscreen, with a prominent lip spoiler immediately over the tail lamps. The taillights are slim units with a lightbar connecting them. Overall, the Lexus has a clean and attractive design. The alloy wheels come in sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches.

A 71.4-kilowatt battery powers the Lexus RZ 450e. With a consumption of 18 kWh per hundred kilometres, the brand claims a range of around 450 km on a single charge. This SUV features two electric motors, one on each axle. The front axle produces 203PS, while the rear axle produces 108PS. The total output of these two engines is 313PS.

The yoke steering appears to be gaining popularity, with even the Lexus RZ getting one - but only with the optional steer-by-wire technology. The interior is designed with the driver in mind, with all control surfaces within easy reach.

The centre console appears to be tilted towards the driver as well. The 14-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and heads-up display, according to Lexus, are positioned such that they give minimum distraction while driving while simultaneously boosting forward sight.

In addition, the Lexus RZ will be equipped with the most up-to-date driving safety equipment, including cameras and sensors.
