Launched 2012 Toyota Camry in India
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd has launched the new Camry in India. It is priced at Rs 23.8 lakh ex-Delhi. A new 181PS 2.5-litre dual VVT-i petrol engine powers the Camry and is mated to a 6-speed auto transmission.
Toyota has started assembling the 2012 Camry in India. Currently there are no plans of bringing in a diesel-powered Camry and the company believes that the petrol variant will sell based on the high reliability quotient that the Camry enjoys world-wide. Toyota will offer only one variant of the Camry.
Comparatively the Honda Accord is priced at 21.08 for the 4-inline automatic. The Skoda Superb in petrol for the entry point Ambition variant is priced at Rs 18 lakh. The top of the line automatic is priced at Rs 21.1 lakh. The new Hyundai Sonata is priced at Rs 20.61 lakh for the automatic. And finally the Passat diesel (DSG) automatic is priced at Rs 23.8 for the Comfortlilne (entry point).
Toyota has a big challenge on their hands if they want to push sales of the Camry, seeing how its pricing is more expensive than the competition. This is despite it being a CKD unit. Stay glued for a comparison story soon.
