Lamborghini bids farewell to iconic V12 with two one-off models
The inevitable has happened - Lamborghini has surprised everyone with two one-off models, the Invincible coupé and Auténtica roadster, to bid farewell to the legendary V12 mill. The pair is based on the Aventador but features a completely new design. Notably, Lamborghini has hinted that the world premiere of its first-ever hybrid supercar and Aventador successor is now just a few short weeks away.
"The V12 engine is one of the pillars of our history and our marque's success. As we head towards embracing a new era of hybridisation at the heart of our Cor Tauri strategy, this is the Lamborghini way of celebrating the naturally aspirated V12 with two one-off vehicles that perfectly represent our concept of excellence in personalisation," said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO, Automobili Lamborghini.
The Invincible coupé and Auténtica roadster mark the end of Sant'Agata Bolognese's naturally aspirated V12 era. For the last time, the duo features the iconic longitudinally-mounted 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 mill married to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. This engine generates 780PS and 720Nm of torque. It is also linked to a four-wheel drive system. While Lamborghini has not revealed official performance figures, expect them to provide a top speed of 355kmph with the 0 to 100kmph sprint in about 2.8 seconds - almost identical to the Aventador Ultimae.
Both one-of-their-kind models utilise the carbon fibre body. The Invincible coupé is draped in Rosso Efesto paint job, while the Auténtica roadster features Grigio Titans shade with touches of Giallo Auge colour.
The unique design language of the one-off coupé and roadster takes inspiration from the special Lamborghini models of the past. To begin with, the massive rear wing on the Invincible draws inspiration from the Gallardo-based lightweight Sesto Elemento, while the bonnet resembles that of the track-only Essenza SCV12 hypercar. On the other hand, the aggressive front end, especially the vertical struts and pronounced front splitter, is taken from Reventón (limited-run model based on the Murcielago) and Veneno (the most radical version of the Aventador to date).
The firm's signature hexagonal-patterned motif can also be seen on the various parts of the Invincible and Auténtica, such as the daytime driving lights, taillights, and the centre-mounted triple exhaust tips made from Inconel, which is a special high-performance alloy derived from the aerospace industry, says Lamborghini.
