Kia India is set to install 150 kW DC fast chargers at some of its dealerships across the country. This comes before the launch of the Kia EV6. These 150 kW units will be the fastest chargers to be set up by a carmaker in India and among the host of other EV charging service providers in the country.

We expect to see these 150 kW DC fast chargers come up at Kia dealers in more prominent urban centres, which is where most of the Kia EV6 buyers expect to be concentrated. A 150 kW charger  is far quicker at charging an EV, provided the EV's onboard charger has the capability to accept these charge speeds. Such a charger can add about 200 km of range in 15 minutes or can charge a 50 kWh battery pack to 80 per cent in the same time.

Kia India seems to be setting these chargers up to support owners of the Kia EV6. The electric crossover is based around the 800V E-GMP architecture its shares with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The EV6 can accept up to 350 kW DC charger consequently. These 150 kW chargers should be able to charge the car from 20 to 50 per cent in under 30 minutes.

The India-spec Kia EV6 will get the larger 77.4 kWh battery pack which will be available in single-motor or dual-motor AWD variants. The single motor EV6 will put out 229Ps and 350 Nm while the AWD version will make a combined 325PS and 605 Nm. The FWD Kia EV6 will have a WLTP range of up to 528 km.

The Kia EV6 is set to launch in India in the next few weeks after bookings open May 26. The Kia EV is being brought in as a CBU and should be priced between Rs 60 to 70 lakh in India.
