Kia India announce a price hike effective from April 1
No, this is not an April fool's prank. Kia India has declared that it will raise the pricing of its automobiles by up to 3 percent from April 1. The decision is due to an increase in commodity costs and supply chain inputs. This is the company's first pricing change this year.
Kia has sold about 1.16 million units in India and other regions so far. Seltos, its best-selling vehicle, has sold over 6,13,000 units, followed by Sonet with over 3,95,000 units sold and Carens with 1,59,000 units.
Commenting on the price adjustment, Hardeep Singh Brar, National Head of sales and Marketing, Kia India said, "At Kia, we consistently strive to deliver premium and technologically advanced products to our esteemed customers. However, due to the continuous increase in commodity prices, adverse exchange rate and rising input cost, we are compelled to implement a partial price hike. The company is absorbing a significant portion of the increase, allowing customers to continue driving their favourite Kia cars without a major dent in their pockets".
Kia India currently retails 4 cars in India, including the Sonet (priced at Rs 7.99 lakh onwards), Carens (priced at Rs 10.45 lakh onwards), Seltos (Rs 10.90 lakh onwards) and the EV6 (priced at Rs 60.95 lakh onwards).
Kia India entered the Indian market in April 2017 by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh to develop a new production plant in Anantapur District. By August 2019, mass production was beginning, with an annual output capacity of 3 lakh units.
