Kia Clavis spotted testing for the first time. India debut in 2024?
Kia India is preparing to debut an all-new SUV this year. Internally codenamed 'AY', it is expected to be called Clavis at the time of its launch. The SUV will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos, and we now have access to some spy photographs of the car from South Korea.
Rumours state that Kia is trying to expand its presence in India further, hoping to build on the success of models such as the Seltos and Sonet. Kia India has also filed a patent for the name 'Clavis', which is a strong sign that the vehicle will be launched in India.
Kia Clavis: Design
While the majority of the car is camouflaged, it appears that it draws influence from the Kia Soul, which is sold in international markets. The spy pictures show vertically positioned LED headlights, a design choice that not only improves the SUV's overall appeal but also adds better road lighting.
The inclusion of 17-inch alloy wheels lends elegance to the overall appearance. The rear of the car has vertically positioned taillights and the currently trending horizontal light bar that seems to be a given.
Kia Clavis: Features and Powertrain
The spy images from 'Shorts Car' also give an idea of what to expect inside the new vehicle's cabin. It has ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera system, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, and a few more creature pleasures. On the safety aspect, the Clavis will have six airbags and four-wheel disc brakes, with ADAS likely available in higher equipment levels.
The Clavis SUV will be available with both an internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric drivetrain. While specifics regarding the electric variations are unknown, we expect a driving range of 350 km to 400 km, which aligns with the growing emphasis on sustainable mobility. We expect the Clavis ICE models to share powertrains with the recently redesigned Kia Sonet.
