The Kawsaki Versys 650 gets a 649cc parallel-twin DOHC engine that makes 69PS at 8,500rpm and generates 64Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. This motor is paired to a 6-speed transmission. The new Kawasaki Versys 650 has similar design lines to the bigger Versys 1000. The front fairing gets a sporty touch and looks modern with new twin-headlights. The front screen has been made larger than before and has a toolless adjustment to make it more convenient for the rider. Substantiating the 'adventure tourer' tag is the new integrated luggage mounting system that is mounted on the new subframe. The new angular exhaust is the other addition to the new Versys 650.

The bit where the Versys 650 scores more points over the Ninja is in terms of the suspension setup. The Showa SFF on the Versys 650 features adjustable rebound damping on the right leg and adjustable preload on the left. Also, the rear shocks get remote spring adjustability. The front wheel travel on the Versys 650 is 150 mm and on the rear wheel, 145 mm, which also happens to be more than the Ninja 650. Everything summed up, the Versys 650 makes for a potentially stronger adventure machine than the Ninja 650.

Even though the Versys 650 shares its platform with other Kawasaki 650cc bikes, it offers a unique character thanks to these changes. The 2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 will be sold only through the KTM network like the Kawasaki Ninja 650. Watch out for our first look review of the Versys 650 and upcoming comparison with the other middle weight contenders sold in India.
