To guarantee that the next cars adhere to existing and upcoming regulations and quality requirements for connection and electronics, Jaguar Land Rover has constructed an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) laboratory in Gaydon in the UK. The all-new Range Rover Sport, which debuted in May, was the first car to go through a special testing regimen at the facility on-site.

EMC, or the capacity of electrical systems and equipment to operate appropriately in their electromagnetic environment, is a crucial component of a vehicle's performance. To lessen the possibility of undesirable consequences like electromagnetic interference, it limits the accidental synthesis, spread, and receipt of electromagnetic radiation.

The brand-new vehicle testing facility for Jaguar Land Rover has two anechoic chambers: a rolling road that is electrically "silent" and allows engineers to test cars at high speeds, as well as tools for evaluating the performance of specific parts like batteries or electric motors. Vehicle services and features including adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, 4G, and 5G are just a few examples that the facility will evaluate for EMC.

Testing for EMC is essential to ensuring quality, legal compliance, and customer satisfaction as industry advancements are expected to increase the number of electric powertrains and the variety of digital and cloud-based services available on vehicles, from software over-the-air updates to autonomous technology.

Peter Phillips, Senior Manager, Electromagnetics and Compliance at Jaguar Land Rover, said: "The importance of testing our vehicles for electromagnetic compatibility cannot be underestimated. Opening this new testing facility is an important step forward for the business and it will play a crucial role in helping us deliver quality, legal, and customer satisfaction."
