Jaguar Land Rover and Chery set up facility in China
JLR and Chinese car exporter Chery Automobile are taking their joint venture to the next level with the inauguration of a facility in China. The plant, which is in Changshu, Shanghai will include a new research and development centre along with an engine production facility. Car models tailored for the Chinese market will also be assembled here. The joint venture intends to exploit the technical expertise of Jaguar Land Rover in making cars and Chery's at employing cost effectiveness and understanding of the Chinese market.
In a joint statement in Jiangsu, Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer, and Yin Tongyao, chairman and chief executive officer of Chery Automobile Company Ltd, said: "We are delighted to have reached this milestone, achieved thanks to the understanding and foresight of the Chinese authorities and we want to thank them for recognizing the potential of our joint venture in the fast-growing Chinese market."
