Intermot 2016: Ducati to showcase 939 SuperSport and Monster 821 Euro IV
Like everyone else, Ducati is expected to reveal a whole host of models refreshed with Euro-IV engines at the Intermot show in Cologne this week. In that list should be India-relevant models like the Monster 821 and the Diavel.
But the showstopper is the Ducati SuperSport which was previewed to select guests at the World Ducati Week earlier. This is expected to be a very popular model for Ducati because it focuses and appeals to a larger audience. The Ducati flagship sportsbike, the Panigale, is highly regarded for its ability but it is also criticised for being too hard and focused to riding outside the racetrack.
The Ducati 939 SuperSport is expected to have quite a few styling cues from the Panigale but a calmer, less powerful nature that should make for a great, sporty road bike.

The engine powering the 939 SuperSport is based on the Hypermotard 939's unit. That is an 11° 937cc motor. Ducati says the engine is as much as 80 per cent different from the Hypermotard and should produce around 110PS. The Ducati 939 SuperSport is likely to come to India next year, as we told you right after the World Ducati Week. The 939SS is said to be based on the Monster chassis architecture, a significant departure from the monocoque on the Panigale 959 and up. The WDW motorcycle was the S model which had Ohlins suspension - fully adjustable. Ducati usually uses fully adjustable Sachs units on its lower model and so should the base 939 SuperSport.
As an unfussy, simple road riding oriented motorcycle, good quality but basic suspension makes sense. The brakes are dual 320mm discs with Brembo M4.32 four-piston callipers. ABS, naturally, is standard.
Other bikes expected include the 1299 Panigales featuring the next updates to the traction and wheelie control software, as debuted on the Anniversario model.
