India-Myanmar-Thailand highway pact to be inked in a few days
Indian Road Transport minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the new India-Myanmar-Thailand highway pact will be inked in the next few days. This milestone project will link the three nations by means of a new highway that'll help improve connectivity, trade, tourism and foster stronger ties amongst the trio.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Nitin Gadkari said, "We will sign a road agreement with Myanmar and Thailand to link the North-East to the two East-Asian countries. the agreement is ready and it will be signed in 15 days."
The 1,360km highway will begin from Moreh (India) to Mae Sot in Thailand. Construction of the highway began in 2012. Vehicles will be allowed to ply across the three countries. However, it obvious that one must have a valid passport, visa and other documents to cross borders.
While a detailed do's and dont's list is not ready, people crossing into a foreign land will be expected to follow the traffic rules and regulations. Also, vehicle fitness, an often overlooked aspect in India, is expected to be critical in letting a vehicle past borders.
The route will serve as an ideal option for those who love road trips. It'll cost a lot more that your average, Mumbai-Delhi drive ,that's roughly the same distance, the feeling of driving your personal car/ motorcycle will surely make it worth it.
