India-bound Hyundai Ioniq 5 to get 21 Level 2 ADAS features

After announcing the bookings commencement date for the Ioniq 5, Hyundai has now confirmed that the EV will get the SmartSence Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) - a suite of 21 cutting-edge features. It will be Hyundai's second offering in India to get Level 2 Autonomy after the new Tucson. Meanwhile, Hyundai will start bookings of the Ioniq 5 in the country on December 20, 2022.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 ADAS Explained

The ADAS in the Ioniq 5 uses an array of advanced sensors, cameras, and radars to actively observe the car's environment, especially obstacles on the road. This system also monitors driver errors. Whether it is obstacles on the road or human error, the ADAS reacts with countermeasures to avoid collisions or accidents. Notably, the Ioniq 5 has a front camera, radar, and multiple rear radars.

With the addition of new ADAS features, such as Safe Exit Assist (SEA) and Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), the Hyundai also offers Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist–Car (FCA-Car), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist – Pedestrian (FCA-Ped), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist-Cycle (FCA-Cyl), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist – Junction Turning (FCA-JT), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Bling-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Safe Exit Warning (SEW).

Further, the Ioniq 5 comes with Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC with S&G), Lane Following Assist (LFA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Specifications

Based on the battery electric vehicle-specific E-GMP platform, the EV is powered by two different battery packs in some international markets: 58kWh and 72.6kWh. Both battery packs can be equipped with a rear-wheel or all-wheel drive system. The range and power outputs vary depending on the battery pack and drivetrain option. For instance, the 78.6kWh battery pack with AWD can deliver a claimed range of 481km. The Ioniq 5 also supports 800V advanced charging technology, recharging the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes.
