Hyundai Exter spotted undisguised in South Korea

The Exter micro SUV, Hyundai's next big launch for India, has been spotted in production form. The carmaker has been showcasing teasers of this future Punch competitor, but the Exter has now been spotted entirely unmasked in the manufacturer's native country, South Korea. The Exter will sit below the Hyundai Venue in the manufacturer's portfolio.

The parametric front grille in shining black paint stands out on the front fascia. It extends from end to end, like in the Hyundai Aura and Grand i10 Nios. Furthermore, the clamshell bonnet blends seamlessly into the SUV's nose, which is separated by a black strip. It draws a lot of characteristics from its older sibling, the Venue, but the highlight of the exterior is the H-shaped LED daytime running lights that double up as indicators and projector headlamps located below the DRLs.

The Exter features round and slightly flared wheel arches on the sides, as well as thick cladding over the length, which adds to the SUV's squarish appearance. The Exter receives an H-shaped LED wrap-around tail light joined by a hefty black bar with a distinctive design at the back. Rear parking sensors, a shark fin antenna, a rear wiper, a high-mount stop lamp, and a blacked-out back bumper are among the other features.

We believe that the Exter will benefit from two engine options: a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83PS and 113.8Nm of torque and a 1.0-litre, inline-three cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120PS and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a five-speed manual, AMT, and seven-speed DCT automatic. Hyundai could also offer it with an iMT gearbox.

The Exter is expected to enter manufacturing in early July of this year, with a market debut scheduled for the start of the holiday season in August 2023. When it is released, it will compete in the Indian market with vehicles like the Tata Punch and the Citroen C3.
