Hyundai Exter spotted testing in production ready guise

Not long back Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) confirmed that an entry-level SUV, christened the Hyundai Exter is in the works and that the car will be coming to India later this year. The Exter will sit below the Hyundai Venue in the manufacturer's portfolio and the car has now finally been spotted testing on International waters. Even though the spied car is completely covered, we do get a glimpse of the silhouette that will rival the Tata Punch in India.

Designed around the 'Sensuous Sportiness' design philosophy, the Hyundai Exter bears a youthful characteristic and takes inspiration from outdoor, travel, lifestyle, and urban, says Hyundai. It draws a lot of characteristics from its older sibling, the Venue, but the highlight of the exterior is the H-shaped LED daytime running lights that double up as indicators, projector headlamps located below the DRLs, and a wrapped-around grille.

There are 2 different variants of the Exter spotted and it's clearly visible that the top trim will get a new alloy wheel design, roof rails and ORVMs with turn indicators. We suspect that the other car will be a base variant model as it features very ordinary wheel covers and halogen headlamps.

We believe that the Exter will benefit from two engine options: a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83PS and 113.8Nm of torque and a 1.0-litre, inline-three cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120PS and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a five-speed manual, AMT, and seven-speed DCT automatic. Hyundai could also offer it with an iMT gearbox.

While Hyundai has revealed the exterior design sketches, it is yet to disclose the interior of the SUV. We expect it to offer a sizable touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a semi- or fully digital instrument cluster, a multifunctional steering wheel, ventilated front seats, front armrest with storage, cooled glovebox, USB fast-charging ports, rear air-con vents, and a wireless charging pad, among others.

Hyundai is likely to bestow the Exter with numerous features, such as ESP, hill hold assist, downhill assist, engine start/stop switch, connected car technology, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, air purifier, cruise control, a rearview camera with parking sensors, and more.
