Hyundai Elantra N updated on the performance brand's 8-year anniversary

Hyundai Motor Company marked the eighth anniversary of its high-performance N brand today with the global debut of the newly redesigned Elantra N (sold as Avante N in South Korea and i30 Sedan N in Australia). Hyundai says that the new Elantra N has advanced technology capabilities transferred from racing competition to provide superior handling balance in high-performance driving, more safety and comfort, and an emotionally engaging driving experience.

The Elantra N continues to be driven by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 280PS of power and 393Nm of torque - with automatic overboost increasing power to 290PS for 20 seconds. The car tops off at 280 kmph.

A six-speed manual or eight-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic gearbox sends power entirely to the front axle, with an adjustable electromechanical front differential assisting in channeling torque to the road.

Hyundai has formally confirmed improvements made beneath the skin of the Elantra N, including a strengthened engine mount membrane and G-bushing, as well as a new rear suspension insulator made of urethane rather than rubber.

The modifications are supposed to minimize vibration while also improving yaw response, steering accuracy, and damping. With optimized software, the electronically-controlled suspension hardware has also been modified for increased body control.

The revised bumper has a wider air duct that directs air flow directly towards the brake to cool it off when hot, while updated ESC software and a new thermal protection on the front brake line increase endurance.

It now has an electronic parking brake, a Digital Key 2 Touch that allows you to open the car with your iPhone or Apple Watch, and heated first and second-row seats. The revised Elantra N sedan has two more airbags, increasing the total to eight, as well as adaptive cruise control, a Blind-Spot View Monitor, a surround-view camera, and a built-in dash cam.
