Honda Civic Type OveRland is an off-road spec Type R!

When Honda launched the new-gen Civic in India, all I wished was an announcement of the introduction of the Type R in the country as well. Why you ask? Well, for starters it is one of the most snazzy looking performance-spec cars that you can lay your hands on. While it is public knowledge that the Civic Type R is one of the track scorchers, Ralph Hosier Engineering believes it can go other places as well. Their latest concept, called the Civic Type OveRland is an off-road spec Type R, that was showcased at the 2019 SMMT Test Day held at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.

This one-off concept has been raised by over four inches, and has been equipped with huge mud-plugging tyres. The makes claim that the Civic Type OveRland takes huge influence from Rally Raid, Overland and Safari models from the world of rally and adventure holidaying. The complex anti-torque-steer Dual-Axis strut arrangement has been retained to allow the fundamental design and purpose of the Civic Type R's suspension to work as designed originally. At the rear, a bespoke trailing arm mounting and modified transverse links have lifted the car three inches higher than standard. Transferring this to the tarmac, or mud, are 255/55/18 BF Goodrich tyres wrapped around rally-derived, lightweight wheels. The Honda Civic OveRland has been finished in iconic Championship White.

From the looks of it, one might find it difficult to replace the flowing razor sharp lines of the Civic Type R with as muscular theme as the one shown in this concept. But then, we believe the design of the Civic Type OverRland will grow on you. Think of it as one of the cars shown in MadMax. Perhaps a couple of rocket launchers and a flame thrower should complete this look and make it more radical and purpose built.

There are no plans to put this rad looking Civic under production but then Ralph Hosier Engineering will make one-off models for their discerning customers. The prices of which has not been disclosed yet. Also, the concept shown in these images is not complete. We are just trying to think of how much would Ralph push the road-spec Type R to make it a more convincing safari car. Powering the Civic Type OveRland is a 2.0-litre Vtec Turbo engine that produces 320 PS with peak torque of 400 Nm. It takes a claimed 5.7s to reach 100kmph.
