Harley-Davidson India confirms new motorcycle launches, details on updated dealer network by December 2020
Harley-Davidson India has been in news lately for not so popular reasons. Mainly because of the Indian dealers of the premium American motorcycle brand who have a feeling of being cheated by the company and are looking at taking legal action against the brand. Firstly, because no formal communication was sent to them regarding the closing of Indian operations and secondly due to the improper compensation that is being reportedly given to the existing dealerships.
While Harley-Davidson India is yet to share an official word on this, the company has issued an official letter that is being sent to all the existing customers by Sajeev Rajasekharan, managing director, Asia Emerging Markets and India.
"We would like to assure you that we are working closely with Hero MotoCorp to ensure a seamless experience for you starting in 2021 and beyond. Genuine Harley-Davidson motorcycles, accessories, gear, H.O.G. activities and important services such as warranty and motorcycle service are currently active and will continue from January 2021 onwards.
We will continue to stay engaged with Hero as they bring the Harley-Davidson experience to life for you. I understand you may have concerns or questions about this transition. I want to share a few updates with you and will continue to communicate details as soon as they become available.
The current Harley-Davidson dealers will continue operations until December 31, 2020. Details on the updated dealer network and service points that will be operational starting January 1, 2021 will be communicated before the end of December 2020
Harley-Davidson will continue to bring new motorcycle models to India. Details will be shared closer to product launches

Last month, Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp announced a joint statement, stating that Hero MotoCorp will be offering sales and service support for Harley-Davidson motorcycles in India. Additionally, the release also mentioned, as part of a Licensing agreement, Hero MotoCorp will develop and sell a range of premium motorcycles under the Harley-Davidson brand name. Though more details on the same are expected to follow soon, we believe the scale of operations and the economy of manufacturing of Hero MotoCorp will be suitable for Harley-Davidson to enter the volume segment of motorcycles, given the expertise of Hero MotoCorp in this regard.
