Harley Davidson going to go Duty Free.
An interim trade agreement between India and the United States, expected to be formally signed by mid-March, includes targeted concessions for high-end motorcycles and luxury automobiles that could reshape pricing dynamics in the premium mobility segment.
Under the framework agreed by both governments, import tariffs on American motorcycles with engine capacities between 800 cc and 1,600 cc will be eliminated, granting zero-duty access from the deal's implementation. This concession is aimed primarily at Harley-Davidson, whose heavyweight cruisers and touring bikes fall squarely within this bracket and have historically been hindered by steep duties that pushed retail prices far above those of many competitors.

Industry analysts and officials note that these changes could make fully built (CBU) Harley-Davidson models more competitively priced in India, potentially boosting demand among affluent riders and niche enthusiasts. India's previous tariff regime for high-end bikes included combined levies that could approach or exceed 100 per cent, depending on the product, so the removal of such duties marks a significant policy shift.

This essentially affects the pricing of the Adventure Tourer and Sport segments of Harley-Davidson CBU imports, significantly slashing the prices. However, the much more premium Grand American Touring and Cruiser motorcycles will not see any price cuts as per the agreements, which only talk about 800 to 1600 cc motorcycles. Also, the made-in-India motorcycles, the X440 and the X440-T, both of which have 440 cc engines, will continue with the current pricing without any reductions.

This means your dream Harley is getting significantly cheaper, and here is a list of speculated prices with a 110% Import Duty reduction.
| MOTORCYCLE | ENGINE CAPACITY | CURRENT PRICE (Ex-Showroom) | ESTIMATED PRICE (With 110% Deduction) |
| Harley-Davidson Nightster | 975 cc | ? 14,54,000 | ? 6,92,381 |
| Harley-Davidson Nightster Special | 975 cc | ? 15,38,000 | ? 7,32,381 |
| Harley-Davidson Sportster S | 1252 cc | ? 18,05,000 | ? 8,59,524 |
| Harley-Davidson PAN America 1250 Special | 1252 cc | ? 27,16,000 | ? 12,93,333 |
The concessions arrive against a backdrop of broader bilateral negotiations aimed at boosting trade flows between the two economies. For the Indian premium motorcycle market, a relatively small niche compared with the mass two-wheeler segments dominated by local manufacturers, the tariff changes could introduce new competitive dynamics without displacing domestic players focused on low- and mid-capacity machines.
