Geneva Motor Show 2012 - Volkswagen shows four Up! concepts
The Geneva Motor Show 2012 has thrown many surprises with the latest being the unveiling of four new Up! concept cars â" Winter, Swiss, X and Cargo, each of which the German car manufacturer says represents the versatility of the car. The Winter Up! is based on the first concept shown in 2011 at the Frankfurt show with the roof having snowboards and the raised ride height and special underbody protection. Surprisingly it only has front-wheel drive for its purpose.
The Swiss, as VW says, is dedicated to the versatile Swiss army knife. The Swiss also reflects colours of the Swiss flag replete with its white mirror housings, tornado red paintwork, round bezels around the air vents and a white dashboard fascia. The back seat of this car gets a leather band for storing the Swiss knife.
The X Up! is more for night-time expeditions with a roof box which comes fitted with built-in searchlights. The interiors have two-tone inserts for the doors and hand-sewn logos. The Cargo Up! plays second role as a city delivery van with a 426kg payload capacity and rear seats removed to create a flat load area. An upper head made of Plexiglas separates the driver from the cargo.
Volkswagen has already started sales of the three-door Up! in the UK with the five-door joining the line-up in the second half of this year.
