After showing the EcoSport concept at the Delhi Auto Expo, Ford has finally showcased the production version of the crossover at the Beijing Auto Show. Making its debut in the EcoSport will be the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder 120PS Ecoboost engine. The Ecoboost 1.0 not only gets a turbo but also twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) along with direct fuel injection and is Ford's smallest engine yet. In addition to production in Chongqing, the EcoSport crossover will be manufactured in Brazil, Thailand, India and will be offered in nearly 100 markets globally.
The EcoSport gets 16-inch alloys as standard and a chrome-laced grille. It is expected that all models will feature keyless entry, remote start and Ford's Sync infotainment system with voice control. On the safety front, Ford has kitted it with dual front and curtain airbags, ABS, ESP, hill assist and rear parking sensors. The all-new Ford EcoSport will be the second of 15 new vehicles that Ford plans to introduce in the Chinese market by 2015. This is part of Ford's game-plan to bring more than 50 new vehicles and powertrains to the Asia Pacific and Africa region by mid-decade.
The Ford EcoSport reflects our commitment to serve our customers in China and around the world with the cars, utilities and trucks they want and value," said Joe Hinrichs, president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa.
