The Skoda Slavia has been with me for almost 3 months now and I have had the absolute pleasure of driving it for almost 3000+ kms during that time. In my last introduction I had said that I am yet to take the car for a long journey and that finally happened. It's the wedding season and I had to drive the car from Mumbai to Surat and back with a lot of Luggage in the boot and my wife and two kids. I loaded the boot with the luggage for the 3 day trip and yet there was space for more, 521L boot space a definite thumbs up! I have been extensively using the Slavia for city runs, dropping off kids to school and other common activities, but this inter-state journey was the time when the Slavia set a new benchmark. The kids were cocooned in the rear seat which has its own air con vents. The Skoda Surround music system is the best one I have heard in a long time from an OEM and the Wireless Android Auto worked like a charm while my phone was also being charged wirelessly. The highway mannerisms were more than perfect, the ground clearance of 179mm makes it sit higher than usual sedans but the ride doesn't feel unsettled, the car felt planted and grippy at some high speed turns on the highway and I was blown away by the fuel economy it delivered, at times I was wondering whether the distance to empty is giving me the right reading or not, because the kms were just not going down! As seen in the picture i got 19.5 Kmpl but i swear i did see almost 21 Kmpl once on the display. The reason behind this is the gem of an engine, the 1.0 TSi 3Cyl Turbo. Smooth power delivery and brisk acceleration are some key features of this engine rather than just being a frugal one.

Despite being near perfect in all areas, there are some flaws. The Gear Shift stick, I feel the changing between gears could have been smoother, especially the 3rd,4th and 5th gears. Secondly for charging the phones Slavia has 2 USB-C ports in the front and 2 USB-C ports in the back along with the wireless charging space just beneath the center console, although I would have loved to have at least one USB-A port because most of the charging cables come with a USB-A to C configuration. The Air-condition system is good, but it could have been better as I have felt at times it struggles to cool the car even though the fan speed is full, however the chilled glove box & ventilated front seats work like a charm.

Overall the car performed brilliantly. It sure is a looker like I mentioned previously, the Tornado Red paint looks amazing and the sharp lines starting from the front going to the side and culminating at the SKODA branding in the rear looks premium. I still maintain that the Slavia gives you an upmarket feeling, the car looks premium and at times you feel that you are driving a much more premium car for the price that it comes at. The car is nearing the 10000 kms mark and is due for its first service very soon, till now the car is working flawlessly and handling anything i throw at it with ease. More things to come for sure as the Skoda Slavia is a lot of car to explore, so watch this space!
