Product review: OSIM uRelax portable massage chair

The OSIM uRelax is a portable massage chair that claims to convert your regular car seat (or any chair for that matter) into a complete back and lower body massage solution.

The package includes a 2.5in (approx) thick back and seat portion that fits over any regular car front seat. If your rear seats fold in a 60/40 split then it would also fit on the smaller section. It secures with a set of velcro straps, one around the back of the seat and the other around the headrest. We mounted the uRelax in our long term Duster to see how it fared.

The first thing you notice is that you end up sitting a lot higher up on account of the extra padding. Knee and headroom are also reduced. It provides an excellent massage with different modes to suit every ache and pain. You can target a particular area of your back and it can even heat up the rollers if you like. We found the vibration feature which only vibrated the seat bottom felt rather odd and wondered why the seat back didn't get the option. The uRelax also has a handy cut off feature that switches off the system after 15 minutes.

The uRelax works rather well overall and we would be happy to add it to our long term cars but there is just one proviso. The process of mounting it is fiddly so you would ideally mount it and leave it. The amount of space it takes up ensures that this will fit the bigger, more spacious cars a lot better than the average family hatchback. And for the same reason, it will fit better into your chauffeured car rather than a perpetually full family runabout.
