Ducati recently launched the Ducati Desmo450 MX and it is positioned as a premium offering, this motorcycle brings new technology and features to the brand's off-road lineup.

But there is something very interesting about the Desmo450 MX's service intervals. Unlike a normal bike which has a traditional odo, the Desmo450 MX has an hour meter. On a dirt bike, the distance travelled is not how it gets the service, but how long the engine has been running matters more.

It requires a racebike like upkeep. The oil and oil filter needs to changed after every 15 hours, the piston replacement must be done every 45 hours along with valve clearance check. And lastly, the full engine must be serviced every 90 hours.

Powering the Desmo450 MX is a newly developed 449.6cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It produces 63.5 PS and 53.5 Nm, and can rev up to 11,900 rpm, making it one of the more performance-focused engines in its class. The bike is built on a lightweight aluminium perimeter frame designed to reduce the number of welds, which helps improve strength while keeping weight low. It tips the scales at just 104.8 kg (wet, without fuel), making it extremely agile for off-road riding. Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable Showa units offering long travel, while braking is taken care of by Brembo components.

Riders get access to features such as traction control, launch control, engine brake control, and two riding modes. These settings can be adjusted wirelessly using the X-Link mobile app.

This motorcycle is built strictly for motocross use, which means it does not come with road equipment like lights or mirrors and cannot be legally used on public roads.
