Dodge Charger Daytona is set to pioneer the electric revolution of muscle cars
Nothing could've ever prepared America or the world for an electric revolution in the muscle car space but times are changing fast and we have to accept change. Dodge has finally announced the Charger's replacement. It's called the Dodge Charger Daytona, and it is the world's first and only electric muscle vehicle. Dodge revealed all of the specifications of the Daytona, the electric vehicle, in its two launch trims: R/T and Scat Pack and also two petrol-powered versions, Sixpack S.O. and Sixpack H.O., which will also join the portfolio.
Dodge Charger Daytona: Powertrains and Charging
The all-new Charger Daytona replaces the internal combustion engine with electric power. Dodge was able to add a 400V architecture, two electric motors, and a high-capacity battery using the new STLA Large Platform. First up is the Charger R/T, which already produces an astounding 506PS and 548Nm of torque. It can go from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.7 seconds and reach a peak speed of 221 km.
The Charger Scat Pack is the next step up, producing 680PS and 850Nm of torque. Thanks to the increased power, the Scat Pack can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.3 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds. This accomplishment, however, can only be accomplished when the driver presses the "Power Shot" button at the base of the steering wheel, which unlocks an additional 40PS of power for 15 seconds at once. Interestingly, the Scat Pack has a reduced peak speed of around 216 kmph.
Both the R/T and Scat Pack Chargers come with a massive 100 kWh battery pack. The former can travel up to 510 km while the latter has a claimed cruising range of up to 418 km. With a standard 11 kW charger, Dodge says both vehicles can be recharged from 5 percent to 80 percent in roughly 7 hours. But when paired with a 350 kW DC fast charger, recharging time is cut down significantly to around 33 minutes.
As we mentioned, four versions of the Charger have been shown, with a pair of electric muscle cars leading the pack and a pair of combustion-engined variations powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six. All we know about the petrol-powered cars is that they will produce about 420PS and 550PS.
Dodge Charger Daytona: Design
The all-new Charger Daytona retains the muscle vehicle DNA that made its predecessors stand out. This is apparent from the way it appears, with its long muscular hood, bulging wheel arches, and recognizable shape, which clearly draws inspiration from the previous-generation Charger.
To identify the two cars, Dodge added R/T writing to the front side fenders of the "base model" R/T, and the top-of-the-line Scat Pack includes the Scat Pack racing bee. Furthermore, the R/T version features 18-inch alloy wheels, whilst the Scat Pack edition has larger 20-inch Satin Carbon alloy wheels.
The rear and sides, on the other hand, resemble the unmistakable lines of old muscle vehicles, with broad shoulders, large rear quarters, and enormous doors. The back end, like the front, features the Fratzog emblem and a full-width LED taillight that is just as eye-catching. Also, customers may now pick between a four-door and a two-door Charger Daytona EV.
Dodge Charger Daytona: Interior and Features
Inside, the Charger Daytona gets a driver-centric cockpit with all of its digital displaces positioned to face the driver. Like the exterior, interior designers worked to echo the style and feel of the original 1968 Charger. There is a 10.3-inch driver display or optional 16-inch cluster, as well as a 12.3-inch centre display. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system enables the display to provide wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the ability to handle AI assistants like Alexa, as well as satellite radio. The next-generation Charger now also has a wireless smartphone charging station and an optional 18-piece Alpine sound system.
Several modern driver-aid systems help to ensure the safety of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV. This features frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, active lane management, active driving aid, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind spot detection, traffic sign recognition, and sleepy driver identification.
