Chandigarh to curtail registration of non-electric two-wheelers from 10 Feb
In a bid to achieve carbon neutrality, Chandigarh has decided to stop registration of non-electric petrol two-wheelers from 10 February, 2023. The administration introduced an electric vehicle (EV) policy in September last year, laying out a definitive plan to limit sales of non-electric vehicles in a phased manner and encouraging EVs by providing various incentives.
As a part of its Electric Vehicle Policy 2022, any non-electric two-wheelers sold after 10 February will not be registered by the office of Registering and Licensing Authority, Union Territory, Chandigarh until the end of this financial year, that is, 31 March, 2024. However, the registration of non-electric two-wheelers is slated to resume on 1 April, 2024.
Chandigarh Administration, under the Electric Vehicle Policy 2022, has waived fees for electric- and hybrid vehicles road tax and registration during the period of the policy. All these incentives are offered over and above FAME 2 subsidies of the Government of India. Meanwhile, it also plans to set up 100 charging stations across the union territory with an aim to install at least one charger at every car park.
