Car sales January 2023: Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Tata Motors, and more

From India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki to the fastest-growing brand Kia, most Indian automakers have released their sales figures for January 2023. Here are the key highlights of all sales numbers.

Maruti Suzuki

India's largest automaker Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 147,348 units in January compared to 128,924 units in the same period of the last year. The overall sales comprised 99,286 units of mini and compact segment vehicles, 1,000 units of the mid-size segment, and 47,062 units of utility vehicles and vans. The brand exported 17,393 units in the month against 17,937 units in the same period of 2022.

Tata Motors

Indian carmaker Tata Motors sold 47,987 units of its passenger vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs) in the last month, against 40,777 units in January 2022. With this, it registered a year-on-year growth of 18 per cent.

Kia India

Kia reported year-on-year growth of 48 per cent compared to January 2022. Notably, it recorded the highest-ever domestic total sales of 28,634 units since its inception. The Seltos and Sonet were the best-selling models for the company, contributing 10,470 units and 9,261 units of sales, respectively. Kia sold 7,900 units of the Carens, while Carnival crossed the 1,000 unit sales mark in January. Kia registered the highest-ever sales for the Carens in the previous month. Meanwhile, Kia sold 6.5 lakh units within four years of its market debut.

MG

British car manufacturer MG recorded sales of 4,114 units in January 2023. It sold 4,306 units in the same period last year. The carmaker had registered sales of 3,899 units in December 2022.

Hyundai Motors India Limited

Hyundai reported that the total passenger vehicle sales went up by 13.8 per cent in January 2023 to 50,106 units. In comparison, it sold 44,022 units in January 2022. On the other hand, the carmaker registered sales growth of 29.4 per cent with 12,170 units exported compared to 9,405 units shipped in the same period of 2022.

Hyundai Venue N Line

Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced its sales figures for January 2023. It witnessed a 175 per cent growth in sales, reporting 12,835 unit sales in the last month compared to 7,328 units sold in January 2022. Meanwhile, the brand registered sales of 10,421 passenger vehicle units in December last year.
