Chinese auto major BYD (Build Your Dreams) is set to launch its new Seal electric vehicle (EV) in India on March 5, 2024. Unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, the Seal EV will mark BYD's third product in the country, following the all-electric e6 and Atto 3. Bookings for the Seal electric sedan have already commenced, and customers reserving the vehicle until April 30 stand a chance to receive complementary gifts, including UEFA match tickets and round-trip flights to the match city.

BYD Seal: Range, Battery, & Power Output

The Seal EV is equipped with two battery pack options: 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh. The former is compatible with both single- and dual-motor setups, while the latter is exclusively available in an all-wheel-drive configuration. The top-spec variant, featuring the larger battery pack, boasts a claimed range of up to 700km on a full charge and a dual-motor setup producing 530PS, enabling a rapid acceleration to 100kmph in 3.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the India-spec model is likely to offer a single powertrain option.

BYD Seal EV: Design, Dimensions, & Interior

The Seal EV, adopting a modern design, features unique elements and a slanting roofline in line with BYD's "ocean aesthetics" concept. It utilises the e-platform 3.0 and CTB (cell-to-body) technology, integrating the battery pack into the chassis. With dimensions of 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,920mm, the Seal EV offers a 400-litre boot capacity and a 50-litre front trunk.

The interior features a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster, and a heads-up display. The centre console houses a gear selector, two wireless charging pads, and controls for various functions. Additional amenities include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, connected car tech, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.

BYD Seal EV: Pricing & Rivals

The expected pricing for the BYD Seal EV is expected to fall between Rs 55 lakh and 65 lakh. Upon its launch, the Seal EV will compete with contenders such as the BMW i4 (Rs 72.50-77.50 lakh), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 46.05 lakh), and Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95-65.95 lakh), all prices being ex-showroom.
