Busworld 2015: Scania displays ethanol engine and Metrolink bus

Swedish busmaker, Scania showcased its latest range of buses at the ongoing Busworld 2015, the worldwide exhibition for buses and coaches held in Mumbai. The company also showcased its ethanol engine and ethanol powered Green Bus at the exhibition.

The new bus is Scania's high-end 13.7 metre Metrolink model. The Metrolink comes with a refined suspension and braking system that offers superior comfort and safety, says Scania. The company also said that the new Metrolink is loaded with a host of safety features such as six emergency exits, 12 hammers, and a 100 per cent fire retardant bus body. The bus also conforms to the R66 Standard that has been certified by TUV Germany.

Anders Grundströmer, managing director and senior vice president, Scania India said, "We are delighted to participate in Busworld, this is an excellent platform for showcasing our products and services. In this edition of Busworld, we are displaying our ethanol engine for the first time in India and showcasing India's first ethanol-powered Green Bus and the market leading premium intercity bus - the Metrolink 13.7m coach. Keeping in mind India's need for a sustainable transport system, we will bring more products that run on alternative fuel and help drive the Swach Bharat campaign and the concept of smart cities."

Ethanol Engine

At Busworld 2015, Scania also delivered the Metrolink buses to its clients. One of them was Kaushik Global Logistics that will ply the buses for UPSRTC. This opens doors to the north Indian market for Scania.

Scania's biggest competition in India comes from its Swedish counterpart, Volvo.

Scania had received orders for 14 buses from Hebron Transports, eight buses from Transit Logistics and 20 from Kaushik Global Logistics (KGL). With the delivery of buses to Transit Logistics, Scania completes its entry into the state of Telangana as well.
