BMW has just globally unveiled the next-generation BMW X1 and the talking point has to be the introduction of the BMW iX1. The new BMW X1 is now in its third generation, with a more prominent appearance, more roomy interior, greater digitalization – and, for the first time, an all-electric driving system.

The design of the new-generation X1 and the all-electric iX1 will be similar. The automaker's entry-level SUVs will be distinguished by a big front grille flanked on each side by elegant headlights with integrated LED DRLs and turn indicators. The X1 also has a sloping roofline, new alloy wheel designs, and LED taillights that have been restyled.

The X1 now has adaptive dampers, which decrease the ride height by 0.6 inches. There is a choice of 18, 19 and 20-inch wheels available and an M Sport package with aggressive-looking external changes and distinct interior trim is offered once again.

The all-electric BMW iX1 will be powered by a 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor.  The engine will produce 268PS, with a 40 PS boost available under high load. The iX1, BMW's smallest electric SUV, will have a WLTP-certified range of 438 km per charge.
With the aid of a 130 kW DC fast charger, it can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 29 minutes.

The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and the 2.0-litre diesel engine will hold their place. This will be mated with a 48V with an electric motor integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission to help boost both efficiency and power delivery in the two most powerful engines.

A new curved display, similar to that seen in the updated 3-series, is found on the inside. A 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.7-inch central infotainment screen are included. Navigation, a powered trunk, and various driver-assistance systems are all included as standard equipment. A convenience package, an XLine design package, a luxury package and heated seats and a heated steering wheel are among the available options.

The BMW X1 should make its way into India in the near future after its launch in the international markets.
