BMW Motorrad has launched the BMW M 1000 R, in India at a price of Rs 33.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Thenew model is the most powerful and track-focused iteration of the S 1000 R, carrying the prestigious 'M' badge with several performance upgrades.

- 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds
- 210 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque
- Top speed of 280 kmph
- Features a 6.5-inch TFT display, a GPS lap timer, adjustable rider footrests

At its heart, the M 1000 R uses a heavily tuned version of the engine from the BMW S 1000 RR. It produces 210 PS at 13,750rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 11,100rpm. While peak power is slightly lower than before by 2 PS, the power now comes in earlier in the rev range, improving real-world performance.

BMW claims the bike can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 280 kmph. It also features a quick-action throttle for sharper response. Like other high-performance machines, the M 1000 R is equipped with aerodynamic winglets that improve stability. These winglets can generate up to 11 kg of downforce at 220 kmph. The bike also benefits from BMW's ShiftCam technology, which optimises power and torque delivery across different engine speeds.

In terms of design, the M 1000 R adopts a sharper and more aggressive front end, similar to the latest S 1000 RR. This replaces the older single headlight setup and adds a more purposeful look with a central air intake between the headlights. Apart from these updates and minor refinements, the overall mechanical setup remains similar to the previous version.

Buyers can also opt for the M Competition package, which adds several premium components. These include lightweight carbon fibre wheels, additional carbon parts, a GPS lap timer, adjustable rider footrests, and even a pillion package for added practicality.

The motorcycle comes loaded with advanced electronics such as launch control, traction control, wheelie control, multiple riding modes, and a pit limiter. All settings can be adjusted via a 6.5-inch TFT display to suit different riding styles and skill levels.

The M 1000 R is offered in three colour options, with certain shades exclusive to either the standard model or the Competition package.
